Supporting transformation through the Innovation Collaborative

Our National Innovation Collaborative is a partnership between NHSX, the AHSN network and regional and local health and care teams. It brings together multiple teams to share learning and accelerate the deployment of innovative digital technologies to enable healthcare to be delivered to people at home.

What is the National Innovation Collaborative?

Set up in partnership with the Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) the National Innovation Collaborative is a connected network. Through this network, people can seek advice and rapidly share learning and best practice on technology enabled improvement across the NHS and social care sector. This will include a focus of the people, process and cultural factors that are needed to support improvement enabled by technology.

The NHSX Digital Health team are providing support to regional and local teams to implement technology-enabled remote monitoring services. This is enabling citizens to be supported at home, including the 400,000 citizens for whom home is a care home.

The NHSX support offer includes implementation funding to enable local teams to scale their ambitions for technology enabled home care. This supports teams who are working to scale existing projects using technology to help people to monitor and manage their health or long term conditions at home. Alongside this funding we are working in partnership with the AHSN network to enable our National Innovation Collaborative.

Support included through the National Innovation Collaborative will include:

Communications and marketing

Helping staff and citizens to understand the opportunities and benefits, we will support local teams to share compelling stories, case studies and other content. We will help you to tell your story and point your stakeholders to other supporting evidence and positive experiences. In keeping with the ethos of the Innovation Collaborative, we will use creative approaches to engage, inspire and build knowledge.

Events and networking

We will provide members of the National Innovation Collaborative with the practical skills, knowledge and expertise needed to support their improvement efforts and digital ambition. Health and care staff will benefit from national events to share insights, progress and challenges.

Specialist areas of support

A major focus of the National Innovation Collaborative is to support regional and local teams to measure and demonstrate their impact, and to use data to adapt approaches that support more effective deployment of new technologies. In phase one, a focus on health economics and business intelligence provided access to dedicated support and tools and templates to enable benefits measurement and calculation of return on investment. This was backed by expert advice, training and support on health economics and cost-benefit analysis methodology, which they can apply to their own projects in practice. Similar dedicated support on specialist areas will be provided in the next phase.

With a rapidly growing membership on our Innovation Collaborative Digital Health workspace on the FutureNHS platform, we have a vibrant sharing community eager to ensure we utilise digital technology to best effect to support citizens at home. There are lots of resources available for teams at differing stages of their journey, and opportunities to ask advice from colleagues across the country. The workspace is open to all health and care staff and innovators wishing to also share learning.
